Proceedings:

Meeting called to order 7:02 PM

Minutes of the previous meeting were amended regarding spelling of Sali and approved as amended.

Treasurer’s report had a current ending balance of $3,640.09 and was approved. Rent for HQ has been paid but we may owe utilities, which would be less than $200.

The Volunteer Schedule for staffing HQ was passed around. Barrett expressed sincere appreciation for the many people who staffed the fair booth and have been serving at HQ in the Mall.

Shelly and Barrett have ordered signs and bumper stickers and paid for them personally. More are on order. There was discussion about how to reimburse for this and Barrett felt that couldn’t be done with the current funds collected. If the new orders arrive in time, a donation could be obtained for the yard signs and bumper stickers.

Barrett passed around a demo flyer that could be printed and mailed to 10,000 likely voter households. This idea was discussed as was the idea of getting a radio ad from VP candidate Sarah Palin and paying to broadcast it multiple times.

Motion made by Mike Sharp to have the Exec Committee decide which way to go in early October and authorizing up to $4,000 that could be spent either on mailings or radio. Motion 2nd by Carl Hulquist and passed on voice vote.

Dr. Roy Atwood was Sarah Palin’s academic advisor during her time at U of I and he also signed her graduation application. He spoke about being interviewed by media and shared that he was impressed that she had arranged 2 internships for herself during a time when it was rare for a student to even do one internship.

Betty Naranjo spoke about living in Palmer, AK and working in Wasilla, AK during Sarah Palin’s entry into politics. She stated that she heard lots of grumbling about city government before Palin was elected and then people seemed happy and pleased with how their city was being managed. Betty recalled her disappointment in the previous Governor of Alaska and how she felt Palin brought some good changes.
