Christmas Party for a Cause
We held our annual Christmas Party at Madeline and Glen McComas' home near Potlatch. We enjoyed Madeline's wonderful chocolate fountain and other treat and good company. Most importantly, we collected needed items for Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse to support victims of domestic violence in our area. If you weren't able to attend please consider visiting ATVP's web site for information on items needed. Don't forget our troops! In recent years we have collected items at our Christmas Party to send to troops overseas. This year we collected items at our Memorial Day event and Latah County Fair and shipped them early so they would arrive before Christmas. In total, we collected 80 lbs of care package items and 100 American Flags colored by local children.

(Left to right: Pat Dammarell, Frank Dammarell, Commissioner Jack Nelson, Senator Gary Schroeder, Treasurer Connie Ferguson, Clerk Susan Petersen) Straw Poll Press ReleaseThe results of the Republican Presidential Straw Poll at the Latah County Fair, September 13-16, are:
Fred Thompson (www.fred08.com) 86 Note on 9/17/07: Alan Keyes www.alankeyes.com had not announced or hinted that he may run at the time of the Straw Poll. Our apologies for not including him. According to Barrett Schroeder, Latah County Republican Chairman, the most common comments were "Fred Thompson reminds me of Ronald Reagan" and "Who is Duncan Hunter?" and most voters thought that Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee. "The best part of the Fair is the young people, and this year I enjoyed seeing 17 and 18 year olds realize they would have their first chance to vote for President in 2008 and being excited to participate in the Straw Poll," said Barrett Schroeder. There was no charge to vote in the Latah County Republican Straw Poll. The Poll is non-binding and not scientific. In order to resemble a real election, voting was done by secret ballot with privacy screens and a ballot box. Votes were not counted until after the Fair and only officially announced Republican candidates were included. Republicans also collected 64 American Flag cards colored by children and over 50 pounds of DVD movies and care package items which will be sent to U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and cash donations to cover the cost of shipping. Latah County Republicans support keeping College of Law in MoscowIn response to recent discussions regarding the University of Idaho College of Law, the Latah County Republican Central Committee passed unanimously a resolution in support of keeping the College of Law in Moscow and opposing attempts to move the College of Law to another city.RESOLUTION Whereas the Constitution of the State of Idaho and the Territorial Charter of the University locate the University of Idaho in Moscow; and Whereas the University of Idaho College of Law was established in 1909 in Moscow; and Whereas the University of Idaho College of Law continues to serve the State of Idaho and its people well; and Whereas the College of Law is a valuable economic and academic asset to the University of Idaho, the City of Moscow and Latah County; Now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Latah County Republican Central Committee supports keeping the College of Law in Moscow, Idaho, and opposes any attempts to move the College of Law, including a de facto "removal" by moving significant portions of the College of Law to another city. Passed by unanimous vote Tuesday, August 28th, 2007.
